I think that is a big part of why people refuse to believe in God. I think the other part is that the God they don't believe in isn't the God of Christianity, it's only the God they THINK Christians believe in. When we take the time to share who God is and live out that reality making His truth visible in our own lives, I think we will see less atheism.
