Can an argument ever be made FOR abortion?

Do good Christians think there is ever a case to be made FOR abortion - or is abortion always immoral - absolutely?

I will give this lecture a listen with interest

I can't speak for all Christians obviously, but personally I think there is only one case in which an abortion could be argued for, and that is when the life of the mother is in danger. But I really wouldn't consider that an "abortion" in the sense in which we normally think of it. In those situations, usually either the mother or the baby (or possibly both) are going to die, and so someone has to make a decision about what to do, and either choice will lead to someone's death.

In other words, I don't consider those situations as killing the baby anymore than I would consider the other choice as killing the mother. Rather, I see it as saving the life of one, which leads to the unfortunate death of the other. A situation I pray as few people as possible must face - what a horrible choice to be faced with.

Anyway, I think that distinction is important, because you are still fully supporting life and respecting the sanctity of it. Under any other circumstance in which an unborn child's life is cut short by the choice of another human, as far as I can tell, you are not - and it is the disregard for the sanctity of life that is to me contrary to the Christian walk.; Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 3:13:00 PM GMT+1

Abortion is justified when it will save the life of a human being, as that is being pro-life. I'm passionately and unashamedly pro-life. If you are pro-abortion, then allow me to inverse your logic and turn the question to you: Is abortion never immoral -- absolutely? What about Kermit Gosnell snipping spines of new born babies (and employing people to do so)? At what point does it become immoral, in your opinion?

By the way, we Christians disagreeing with other isn't news to anyone whose read the New Testament. We're not shown to be followers of Jesus by agreeing on everything 100% of the time, but by showing love to each other (John 13:35), even when we disagree.; Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 4:15:00 PM GMT+1
