Terminology Tuesday: Resurrection/Assumption/Revivification

Resurrection is the raising up of a dead man in the space-time universe to glory and immortality. Assumption is the taking of someone bodily out of this world into heaven. Revivification is the return of a dead man to the mortal life. 2 Kings 2:1-12 describes the assumption of Elijah into heaven. John 11:1-44 describes the revivification of Lazarus by Jesus. Note the differences between the two events and Jesus' resurrection.1

Start with an error in definition and every thing built upon that assumption will be error! Such is the definition above, although from a literal standpoint it may appear to be common sense, it has nothing to do with the Promise of our own Resurrection.

The Resurrection of Jesus should be understood as that act of God, which demonstrates that He is prepared to intervene directly into the natural world for those obedient to His will, paving the way for access, by faith, to the power of divine Will, confirmation of covenant and ultimate proof and called the 'first' Resurrection.

That all existing tradition fails to offer such a truth and proof, only means that true religion has yet to be revealed and begin! And that 'beginning' can also be understood as a judgment on the very nature of theologically based religious claims. What generation will live to see it all happen?

All of them.
